FSSAI issues directions regarding compliance of Food Safety and standards (Organic Foods) regulations
As per FSSAI regulations dated 29th June,2018 ,All the organic foods sold from 1st July , must be certified by recognized third part certification agency and must bear a FSSAI compliant label on product with certification mark.
The food business operator manufacturing/processing/packaging organic food shall also need to obtain license under Food Safety and Standards Act,2006 or get organic food endorsed in their existing license through FLRS till 30th Sept’2018.
Organic food is produced using organic farming methods and strive to cycle resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Certification bodies/agencies regulating organic products restrict the use of certain pesticides and fertilizers in farming.
Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and many other countries ask producers to get certification in order to market food as organic .
